Examines the relationship between bioethics & biomedicine in terms of the problems inherent with absolute authority. Various interrelated crises confronting bioethics are described, & it is argued that bioethics should look to classical-liberal principles on limiting power. Similarities between biomedical & governmental power are identified in this light before outlining basic classical-liberal assumptions on the human nature & the human condition. The liberal concepts of property rights, subsidiarity, & polycentricity are identified as useful for addressing issues of power. What a classical-liberal bioethics might look like is then considered, asserting that it would not be a clean & simple paradigm. References. D. Edelman
